Mr. Arumugam Thangavelu serves as a Board Member of Visions Global Empowerment Sri Lanka, bringing over three decades of distinguished experience in education, school leadership, and institutional development. As an accomplished educational administrator, he provides strategic guidance to the organization in advancing its mission of empowering children and young people through quality education, leadership development, and community engagement. Since October 2024, he has retired from his Principal service at J/Varany Central College.

Born on 12 October 1964, Mr. Thangavelu holds a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree and has continually enhanced his professional competencies through advanced qualifications and training in educational leadership and school management. His extensive experience has enabled him to successfully lead schools while promoting academic excellence, effective governance, and holistic student development.

A committed advocate of quality education, Mr. Thangavelu has consistently guided schools under his leadership to achieve excellent results in the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examinations. Under his stewardship, schools recorded outstanding performances in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019, particularly in the Mathematics and Science streams. His emphasis on instructional leadership, teacher motivation, and student support has contributed significantly to these achievements.

Beyond academic excellence, Mr. Thangavelu has been instrumental in mobilizing resources to improve educational infrastructure. Working closely with government authorities, alumni associations, philanthropists, and community stakeholders, he has facilitated the renovation of school buildings, the development of learning facilities, and the provision of modern educational resources, including three Smart Boards, to enhance technology-assisted teaching and learning.

Mr. Thangavelu is widely respected for promoting balanced education by encouraging excellence in academics, sports, leadership, and extracurricular activities. His schools have consistently produced outstanding achievements in provincial and national competitions, reflecting his commitment to nurturing well-rounded students.

In recognition of his exceptional contribution to education, Mr. Thangavelu was honoured with the prestigious "Guru Prathiba Prabha" award, a prestigious award honours teachers in Sri Lanka, in 2016, 2018, and 2019. These recognitions acknowledge his outstanding leadership, dedication to educational excellence, and lasting impact on the development of schools and students in the Northern Province.
